Hidden Women: Women Scientists at Sydney University

Date: May, 2014
Client: University project for Macleay Museum at The University of Sydney

The premise of these postcards is the idea unveiling the hidden history of women in science at the University of Sydney. The museum had small glances of these women but they provided little insight into their contributions to science and to the university. The postcards, concentrate on the women’s contributions to science through their various fields. They were designed as a pair with one showing a portrait of the scientist paired with the tools of their trade. These three scientists were Isobel Bennett a Marine Biologist, Ida Browne a Geologist, and Camilla Hildegarde Wedgwood an Anthropologist. As their contributions could not fit on the back of a postcard, an accompanying poster was made documenting their contributions to both the university and to science.
